The Decision Tree is a power feature where you can define different email flows depending on a certain action, allowing branching and more complex workflows. 
Automate Actions (IF conditions) is a more standard way of creating a campaign.

With the Decision tree you define different email and action scenarios depending on the condition, whereas with Automatic Actions, you just define different actions depending on the condition. Automate Actions is campaign-oriented, i.e., whichever conditions are set on Step 1 of campaign creation, will be the same for all emails of the sequence. The Decision Tree gives an opportunity to set up campaigns at the more individual, campaign email level. The Decision Tree can adjust the next email sent depending on the action taken by the prospect, while Automate Actions cannot.

Another difference is in condition limit. While the Decision Tree campaign is limited to 7 conditions due to its complexity, the Automate Actions campaign is only limited to condition logic. If the logic or order of conditions is valid, it will be possible to add as many conditions as needed.

In Decision Tree campaigns, the system waits a predefined number of days for conditions to be met. For example, wait 5 days for a recipient to click on a link. If this is performed within the timeframe, the recipient is moved to the YES, and if not, to the NO branch.
Automate Actions doesn't have this waiting period. The system will take action whenever the recipient takes action - it’s not a time-sensitive setting.

In Automate Actions there isn't a way to set the NO branch, and what will happen if the set condition is not met.

Since the Decision Tree is activated in Step 4 of campaign creation, it is possible to set a specific link in the "Contact clicked on the link from email" or "Contact downloaded an attachment from email" condition. For Automated Actions, it is necessary to first complete email/s, include links or attachments, and then move back to Step 1 and set specific action.

The Decision Tree and Automated Actions can't be used in a single campaign simultaneously. They exclude each other, and if the Decision Tree is active, all actions set in campaign Step 1 will be deactivated. Once the Decision Tree is disabled in the campaign, actions will be available again.

All in all, there is a choice between two automation types: the one that automates the whole sequence in the same way as Automate Actions, or the other that provides more automation at the email level like the Decision Tree. It is up to you to choose and use the one you prefer.
