Spintax, short for "spinning syntax," allows you to easily create multiple variations of a single message by embedding various alternatives within a text using a special syntax. The results are variations of the same message.
Beyond its creative potential, Spintax plays a big role in optimizing email deliverability - an important metric in email campaign success. By diversifying email content, the risk of triggering spam filters, which often flag identical or repetitive messages, can be mitigated. This proactive approach improves inbox placement and strengthens the sender's reputation.
Spintax can be created in both Template designer and campaign creation Step 4.
Regular Spintax, typed in manually is available to all users, while the Spintax Variation Feature (powered by Open AI) is an additional option that is part of the Autoklose Komposer functionality and can be purchased separately. Find out more about Spintax generated by AI in this article section.
Spintax involves enclosing multiple variations of a phrase or sentence within curly brackets {} and separating each variation with a pipe |. This structure allows Autoklose to select one of the variations when generating text randomly.
A simple example of Spintax could look like this:
{Hello|Hi|Hey} {there|you|everyone}! It is a beautiful day!!!
In this example:
-
{Hello|Hi|Hey}means that the generated text could start with "Hello", "Hi", or "Hey". -
{there|you|everyone}means that the generated text could continue with "there", "you", or "everyone". - The end message could look like this:
Hey you! It is a beautiful day!!!
When processed, Autoklose will randomly choose one option from each set of alternatives, resulting in text variations.
Please note the difference between Spintax which uses one set of curly brackets and a Token with two.
{variation 1|variation 2} - Spintax #{{Token name}} - Token
Token or custom field is predefined contact information or personalization, and Spintax is a set of variations of the same message.
Both have the similar purpose of diversifying and personalizing emails for better deliverability and overall results.
Variations can be as simple as words and phrases, for example, to diversify greetings.
Variations can include Tokens and whole preformatted paragraphs with links, Vidyard videos, images, etc...
Additionally, it is possible to create Nested Spintax:
{Hope {you are doing well.|this email finds you well.|all is well.}|You need to know this.|How are you doing with these insane temperatures?}
Here's a breakdown of this example:
- The outermost brackets
{}contain three options:Hope {you are doing well.|this email finds you well.|all is well.}You need to know this. How are you doing with these insane temperatures?
-
Within the first option, there's another set of brackets
{}:you are doing well.this email finds you well.all is well.
Whenever the first option is randomly chosen, it will get additional variations.
Spintax Variation Feature
This feature is an expansion of regular spinning syntax. It utilizes the power of AI to generate multiple variations of selected text. As it is part of Autoklose Komposer, it is necessary to have purchased a license for this feature. Find out more about this great functionality in this article.
Similar to regular, Spintax Variation can be accessed from Campaign Step 4 and Template editor, but instead of manually writing all variations, select part of the text (up to 50 characters) and click { } Create Spintax and let AI generate variations for you.
For the { } Create Spintax button to become active, select at least 1 and at most 50 characters. Upon clicking, the Komposer drawer opens, and in the Spintax section variations of the selected text appear preformatted and ready to be pasted into the subject line or email body.
Once in place, freely edit spintax, and remove or add variations as you please.
There is no limit to the number of Spintax and Spintax variations you can create. To diversify your emails, generate as many spinning syntaxes and variations as necessary.
When generating text, variations are selected randomly, which means one option from each set of alternatives will be picked unpredictably.
However, because the selection process is truly random, the same variations can be generated consecutively. This randomness ensures that each time the Spintax is used, the text output remains dynamic and diverse, even though occasional repetitions of the same sequence can occur.
The difference between Spintax and A/B tests is that Spintax focuses on randomly creating variations to avoid repetition, while A/B testing focuses on finding the best-performing email variant, where the changes are predictable and planned up-front.
